The traditional Lion dance (Chinese) is a part of festival and culture found in the opening of restaurants, weddings, Chinese festivals and so on. The people over here believe that it will bring happiness and prosperity and can scare the evil. I don’t know whether you have heard about it. This years New Year in china was celebrated in Kopitiam with the tradional culture of lion dance .It has been so popular in Malaysia as well because they also believe in Chinese customs and traditions.

It is believed that being a head dancer is prestigious since they are the once who decide the movement of the lion, where as the others have to be with the head. Our dancers are enticed with gifts i.e. usually ang and pow (red packets of money) often attached to a vegetable, which is tied to a pole. The pole is placed at a door or near to window side. Our dancers try to take these gifts and make it look as if the lion devoured them.
